KARADZIC: L’AVVOCATO AMMETTE, RICORSO NON E’ STATO MAI SPEDITO

(AGI/AFP) - Belgrado, 30 lug. (AGI) Karadzic had been captured in Belgrade a week ago after more than a decade on the run from the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).

Karadzic’s brother Luka had said at the weekend that the appeal against the transfer from Serbia to the ICTY was sent by regular mail at the last minute before a midnight Friday deadline, as part of a delaying tactic.

But Ivana Ramic, the spokeswoman for its intended recipients at Serbia’s war crimes court, said the appeal was yet to arrive by the end of the day on Tuesday.

Serbia’s justice authorities appear to have discovered that the appeal was never sent when they reached their decision to transfer Karadzic to The Hague, which happened before dawn on Wednesday.

After his arrest, Karadzic’s Bosnia-based family — including his wife Ljiljana Zelen-Karadzic and daughter Sonja — had launched a battle to get back travel papers confiscated from them in a bid to visit him in his Belgrade cell.
